3 highschool graduations across the U.S. finish with gunfire in lower than 24 hours

Three high school graduation ceremonies ended with photographs fired in separate incidents in Louisiana, Michigan and Tennessee inside the span of 24 hours, another sobering example of gun violence impacting everyday lives, including that of teenage students.

After college students crossed phases to obtain their diplomas, chaos ensued with gunfire.

At least one individual was killed and seven others injured in collective shootings that resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old gunman in Tennessee.

Photographs had been fired Thursday night time round 8:15 p.m as graduates of Hammond High Faculty were leaving their ceremony held on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University to fulfill with their households, police stated.

A suspect was located after a short foot pursuit and brought into custody, Southeastern Louisiana College Police Chief Michael Beckner informed NBC Information Friday morning.

Costs are pending as the probe continues and all events concerned were adults, Beckner mentioned.

Police mentioned Thursday no Hammond High Faculty students are believed to be involved in the capturing. 

“Presently we do not imagine that there were any college students concerned, we don't consider any juveniles have been struck on this incident,” Bergeron said.

Police are asking for witnesses, or people with video footage of capturing to come forward. 

There were Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies on web site working safety for the graduation who responded to the shooting and the “state of affairs was taken below management very quickly," officials said.

Tangipahoa Parish Superintendent of Colleges, Melissa Martin Stilley, said Thursday, "We apologize to our households and to our college students that this night, which should have been a very glad event for our graduates and their families, ended on such a sad word."

Hammond High Faculty students will have a virtual college day Friday, although faculty will go into to highschool, she stated.

A shooting erupted at the East Kentwood High School campus outdoors the football stadium in Michigan on Thursday throughout a commencement ceremony for Crossroads Different High College at around 7:20 p.m., injuring two, the Kent County Sheriff’s Workplace mentioned in a statement.

Two deputies have been on website working security for the ceremony, but by the time deputies received to the parking lot on foot, “the suspect vehicles had fled.” 

Kent County Sheriff Michelle LaJoye-Younger stated in a Thursday evening news conference that people in two vehicles have been exchanging gunshots.

She mentioned “a large number of shots” had been fired at the scene.

The sheriff's office mentioned two victims in the shooting were later situated at area hospitals: a 16-year-old from Texas who was shot within the wrist and is in steady situation and a 40-year-old lady from Grand Rapids who was shot in the wrist and abdomen in important but stable condition. 

It is not clear if the victims were linked to the graduation.

The sheriff’s office believes there have been more than two individuals opened fireplace. Initial stories indicate two white sedans with multiple folks inside fled the scene at a high charge of pace, officers stated.

Authorities are also asking for witnesses or individuals with video or photo footage of the incident to submit ideas.

Hasani Brewer, 18, was killed and a 17-year-old highschool student wounded, police mentioned. Brewer and the teenager who was shot had gotten into a fight when a third person opened hearth, police spokesperson Larry Flowers mentioned at a news conference.

The suspect, who is also 17, was not recognized due to his age. He shall be arraigned in juvenile court docket on a first-degree murder cost, Flowers said.

Brewer was a previous graduate of the highschool, and the wounded teenager is a junior, he said.

“The graduation was just ending, individuals were leaving, this battle started — so just imagine the chaos when shots rang out,” Flowers said.
