Could 8 (Reuters) - An Alabama legislation that makes it a felony to offer gender-affirming medical remedy to transgender youth went into impact on Sunday while a federal decide weighs whether to grant a motion to put a short lived hold on it.

The legislation makes it a criminal offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison to provide puberty blockers, hormones and medical procedures to transgender youth below 19.

Governor Kay Ivey had signed the bill on April 8. An analogous but not as far-reaching regulation in Arkansas was blocked by the courts final year before it might go into impact.
