Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was released.

The US tech large said its iconic music participant has been replaced by different units, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide marketing, stated: "Today, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We have integrated an unimaginable music experience across all of our merchandise, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and across Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with assist for spatial audio - there isn't any better approach to get pleasure from, uncover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the original iPod and it was the primary MP3 participant that would hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new class of digital music player that allows you to put your total music assortment in your pocket and hearken to it wherever you go," he mentioned at the time.

"With iPod, listening to music will never be the identical again."
