Nashville Public Library launches ‘Freedom to Learn’ marketing campaign

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It's a subject that's taken maintain in Tennessee: books like "Maus" or "Walk Two Moons" have been pulled from shelves.

While these books could be banned from some schools, there is still someplace else you will discover them.

"Our job is just to ensure that in order for you it, it is right here for you," said Public Data Officer for the Nashville Public Library, Ed Brown.

"'Maus' is all checked out right now," stated Brown. "So we bought extra copies on order however as quickly as word received round about what happened in McMinn County, we got a whole lot of holds."

Those are just among the two million different supplies at the Nashville Public Library.

"A lot of people don't wish to read these books; they do not need their kids to have to learn these books, or forced to learn these books, and that's nice," stated Brown. "But there are loads people who do, and we need to be there for the individuals who do need to learn these materials."

And if you want to make your love for these materials identified, what better manner than together with your library card? The 5,000 restricted edition cards for the campaign say "I read banned books."

"We all watch the TV shows that we like; all of us watch the different sports or root for the totally different groups we're a part of," said Brown. "Books are not any totally different."

The goal is to get the 5,000 library cards in the hands of recent sign-ups this month.

"We aren't making an attempt to be a push again — a power pushing again towards these selections — we wish to be an alternative choice to say, in the event you might not have the ability to get it there... you may get it right here," said Brown.

The limited edition library cards can be found as long as supplies last.
