Guardian with hid weapon by accident shoots self while at Arlington ISD school, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a parent with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the mum or dad in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mother or father with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the mother or father in the leg.

The college had early release and college students had been launched on the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

Based on police, the dad or mum, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His harm was not critical.

The school district said White was contained in the building, near the foyer space, and never within the hallway close to students when the gun went off.

Police and school officers mentioned there was no threat made and the dad or mum didn't have "malicious intent."

No college students or workers had been injured. The guardian was taken to an space hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Within the two days for the reason that Uvalde mass school capturing, there have been five cases in North Texas related to weapons introduced to schools or threats made.

Arlington dad and mom stated their minds immediately considered the worst after they were notified.

No father or mother ever needs there to be a purpose for them to get a text message saying their child's school is on lockdown.

But since this week's deadly capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot assist but assume the worst after they do.

"After I received the textual content message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to occur.’ I used to be shocked," dad or mum Karima Rasheed said.

While most times, lockdowns are only drills students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that knowing what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown different. 

"I started seeing my classmates starting to cry and our trainer obtained a notification on their cellphone saying someone was in the building," he said.

Weapons usually are not allowed on faculty property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with mentioned even when it was a mistake, the timing is simply horrible.

"What are we going to do? They have to go to high school, and obviously, statistically, it's unlikely to happen, however you by no means need to be the one statistic. What if it is your children?" Matthew Mitchell mentioned.

Mitchell lives throughout the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve got twin six-year-olds that go to a distinct Arlington college and each time I hear there's a lockdown or a faculty shooting, my heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the commencement day for sixth grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to school within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever occurred at his faculty.

"If one thing happened, you’ve got to run anyplace that’s safe and conceal," she informed her little one.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is just too recent to speak politics, Mitchell mentioned something needs to be accomplished now. 

"They wish to speak about it, they wish to marketing campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, but they don’t wish to actually move any legal guidelines and do something," he added.
