Dad or mum with concealed weapon by chance shoots self while at Arlington ISD college, police say

Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a parent with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the parent in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the mum or dad within the leg.

The college had early launch and students have been released on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In line with police, the mum or dad, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His injury was not serious.

The college district said White was inside the building, near the lobby area, and not in the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and school officers mentioned there was no threat made and the mother or father did not have "malicious intent."

No students or staff have been injured. The mother or father was taken to an space hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Within the two days because the Uvalde mass college taking pictures, there have been five circumstances in North Texas associated to guns introduced to varsities or threats made.

Arlington mother and father said their minds instantly thought of the worst when they had been notified.

No mum or dad ever wants there to be a purpose for them to get a textual content message saying their child's faculty is on lockdown.

However since this week's lethal capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't assist however suppose the worst after they do.

"After I received the textual content message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to occur.’ I was shocked," parent Karima Rasheed said.

Whereas most instances, lockdowns are only drills students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that realizing what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown different. 

"I started seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our trainer got a notification on their cellphone saying somebody was in the building," he mentioned.

Weapons are not allowed on faculty property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with mentioned even if it was a mistake, the timing is simply horrible.

"What are we going to do? They should go to highschool, and clearly, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, but you never need to be the one statistic. What if it is your kids?" Matthew Mitchell said.

Mitchell lives across the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve bought twin six-year-olds that go to a unique Arlington faculty and every time I hear there's a lockdown or a school taking pictures, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the commencement day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to school within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his faculty.

"If something occurred, you’ve acquired to run anywhere that’s secure and conceal," she told her youngster.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too fresh to talk politics, Mitchell said one thing needs to be carried out now. 

"They wish to talk about it, they want to campaign on it, they need to fundraiser on it, however they don’t need to truly pass any legal guidelines and do something," he added.
