Talking in the dugout of the Nice American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler stated, "I do not plan on popping out for the anthem going forward until I feel higher about the direction of our country."

"I am not okay with the state of this country. I wish I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I wish that I may have demonstrated what I realized from my dad, that once you're dissatisfied with your nation, you let it's known by way of protest. The home of the courageous ought to encourage this."

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made an impassioned plea to take stronger motion in opposition to gun violence in the USA.
