Federal agents who went to Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday to confront a gunman who killed 19 children were told by native police to attend and never enter the school — after which decided after about half an hour to ignore that preliminary guidance and discover the shooter, say two senior federal legislation enforcement officials.

Based on the officials, brokers from BORTAC, the Customs and Border Protection tactical unit, and ICE's Homeland Safety Investigations (HSI) arrived on the scene between noon and 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
