EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Alabama fugitive Casey White was taken into custody in Indiana, and his suspected accomplice, Vicky White, died Monday night time from injuries sustained by a self-inflicted gunshot wound as authorities ready to arrest the pair, regulation enforcement sources confirmed.

Replace 9:25 p.m. EDT Might 9: Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding confirmed Vicky White’s death to The Related Press just after 9 p.m. EDT Monday. Original report: Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton said the 2 fugitives, who aren't associated, have been caught close to Evansville, Indiana, after a chase with U.S. Marshals, The Associated Press reported.

“Casey White and Vicky White are in custody,” Singleton stated. “This has ended a really long and anxious and challenging week and a half. It ended the way in which that we knew it will. They're in custody.”

Casey White is now charged with escape, and Vicky White is charged with permitting/aiding an escape, id theft and second-degree forgery, AL.com reported.

Vicky White was a jail officer at the jail that was holding Casey White, who was awaiting trial for capital murder. Inmates and officers said they had a “particular relationship,” the AP reported.

The pair had been on the run since April 29 when the 56-year-old jailer informed the Lauderdale County Detention Center in Florence, Alabama, that she was transporting the 38-year-old inmate for a psychological analysis. Instead, they fled.

In response to WAAY-TV, the fugitives were captured after a pursuit ended when the automobile they had been driving crashed.

In keeping with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff, the police pursuit began when the couple was noticed close to the sheriff’s office and led to a rollover crash close to Evansville Regional Airport, WXIN reported.

Casey White surrendered to police following the crash.

Sheriff Dave Marriage ceremony of Vanderburgh County Indiana confirmed to WXIN that Vicky White’s accidents are serious and have been self-inflicted when she shot herself at some point throughout or at the finish of the pursuit.

Wedding also confirmed to the TV station that Vicky White was driving the Cadillac the fugitives had been in at the time of the crash. Singleton had beforehand reported Casey White as the motive force and the crashed car as a Ford F-150.

In accordance with AL.com, U.S. Marshals had been notified Sunday night that a 2006 Ford F-150 had been discovered at an Evansville car wash.

“This escape was obviously well-planned and calculated. Plenty of preparation went into this. They'd loads of assets, had tags, had vehicles. They had every thing they wanted to drag this off,” Singleton said throughout a Monday evening press conference.

“We obtained a harmful man off the street at the moment. He is never going to see the sunshine of day once more, and that’s a very good thing, not just for our community but that’s a very good factor for this country,” he added.

Evansville is about 175 miles north of Williamson County, Tennessee, where authorities on Thursday discovered the orange 2007 Ford Edge the pair used of their April 29 escape, the information outlet reported.
